Tagovailoa was the No. 5 overall pick in 2020 by the Miami Dolphins while Jones went No. 15 in the 2021 draft to the New England Patriots. Jones was the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback in 2020, propelling the program to an undefeated College Football Playoff National Championship. Young, a California native, was a five-star freshman in 2020. He learned a lot as Jones’ backup, preparing him to take over in 2021. Young set school records for the Tide, but he’s getting information from Jones about how to navigate the NFL Scouting Combine/Draft process.

“I have talked to a good amount of guys to try to prepare myself the best I can for the next level,” Young said Friday in interviews at the Combine. “Specifically, I was talking to Mac earlier this week. He gave me a lot of great advice about how to carry yourself, the things he’s learned in his years there … a lot of things that I am going to take and hold on to. I am super grateful for the guidance I have gotten from him.”
Jones handed Young the football in the fourth quarter of the 2021 CFP National Championship Game for Alabama against Ohio State, signaling the passing of the torch. Now, he is encouraging Young to prepare himself to dominate at the next level.
