Bernard played two seasons with the Crimson Tide before declaring for the NFL Draft. He started his career at Michigan State and transferred to Washington after one season. He made his way to Tuscaloosa after Kalen DeBoer took the head coaching job at Alabama.
The Las Vegas product had 963 all-purpose yards and nine total touchdowns during his last season with the Crimson Tide. The Steelers drafted him in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Bernard is set to play his first year in the NFL with Aaron Rodgers as his starting quarterback.
“We’re very excited,” Steelers offensive coordinator Brian Angelichio said when Bernard was drafted. “Germie is a tremendous person. I was really impressed with him on his 30 visit. His energy, his character, his makeup, who he is as a person. A great football, real productive player. Had a lot of success. Comes from a great program with a lot of history and tradition.”
