Alabama football enrolled a good portion of its 2023 recruiting class in January.
Each of the Crimson Tide’s early enrollees will participate in the Crimson Tide’s full off-season program. Touchdown Alabama will highlight each of Alabama’s newest additions over the next few weeks in an article series.

We continue our series with former four-star quarterback and Georgia product, Dylan Lonergan.
Dylan Lonergan
-Classification: Freshman
–Position: Quarterback
-Hometown: Snellville, Georgia
-Height: 6-foot-2
-Weight: 215 pounds
–Summary: Lonergan was the second quarterback to join Alabama football’s 2023 recruiting class.
The freshman is a former four-star recruit out of Brookwood High School in Snellville, Georgia. He held more than 25 D1 offers, and he chose the Crimson Tide over Standford, South Carolina and others.
Lonergan put up big numbers throughout his time at Brookwood. He finished his career with 8,368 passing yards, 1,349 rushing yards, 74 passing touchdowns and 26 rushing touchdowns.

The former four-star recruit possesses a big and strong arm, which he puts on display on the field and the gridiron. He is expected to have an opportunity to play football and baseball during his time in Tuscaloosa as he is listed on both teams’ rosters at the moment. He is a right-handed pitcher, who can pitch a 90 miles per hour fastball on the diamond.
Lonergan’s arm strength and accuracy when throwing the football in tight windows stand out when you watch his film, but his ability to pick up yards wit his feet is a bit underestimated. He does not possess elite speed, but he is a tough runner, who runs with good vision and the desire to fight for extra yards, which is something he may have to scale back to avoid hits at the collegiate level.
Alabama football’s starting quarterback job is up for grabs. Most of the early chatter about the upcoming position battle has included Ty Simpson and Jalen Milroe. There has not been much talk about Alabama’s freshmen signal-callers, Lonergan and Eli Holstein.
Lonergan is recovering from a foot injury and his status for this spring is unknown.
