Former Alabama DB Saivion Smith re-signs to the Detroit Lions

He has spent a little time in the National Football League and got selected for the 2020 XFL Supplemental Draft, but it appears that a former Alabama defensive back has found in the NFL.

Saivion Smith, a versatile defender, is returning to the Detroit Lions.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network states the Lions are re-signing the South Florida native.

Smith suffered a scary neck injury against the New England Patriots last year in his first start. He’s had off-season disk surgery, but now Smith is back. Detroit wants to see if Smith can finish the incredible comeback with a good season in the fall. After playing high school football at IMG Academy, Smith took his talents to Louisiana State University (2016) and Mississippi Gulf Coast (2017) before transferring to Alabama in 2018. He finished with 60 tackles, five pass breakups, a forced fumble, and a team-high three interceptions. Smith helped the Crimson Tide to a Southeastern Conference Championship and a victory over Oklahoma in the 2018 CFP Semifinal Game (Orange Bowl). He suffered an injury in the CFP National Championship Game versus Clemson as the Tigers captured a 44-16 victory over Alabama. Hopefully, Smith can stay healthy for the Lions.
