Former Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts set a new benchmark in the NFL as he became the highest-paid player in the history of the league landing a five-year $255 million extension from the Eagles.

Hurts has received a lot of congratulations from former Crimson Tide teammates, members of the media and also current members of the Eagles.

But now his former head coach Nick Saban has chimed in showing his own appreciation and admiration for Hurts and his accomplishment. Saban appeared on “The Next Round” on Wednesday where he discussed his Hurts’ contract.

“First of all, we’re happy for Jalen and his family that’s been rewarded,” Saban said on The Next Round. “You couldn’t find a better guy, can’t find a better leader, can’t find a more determined, hardworking guy that’s got great sense of purpose and not only understands what he wants to do, but he has a willingness to do all the things he needed to do to develop to get it done.

“My hat’s off to him. They had a great year, the Eagles, this year and he had a great year, and we’re just happy that the organization recognized the fact that he’s gonna be their quarterback for a long time.”

Hurts has meant a lot to the Alabama program which has been well documented from leading the team to two national championships along with his willingness to stick with the program when benched for Tua Tagovailoa. His perseverance at Alabama would later culminate in the SEC Championship where he sparked a late-game comeback filling in for Tagovailoa against Georgia.

He would carry on his success to Oklahoma where he was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy and has also done so in the NFL as he set career highs in 2022 while bringing the Eagles back to the Super Bowl.
