The biggest talking point since the conclusion of the 2022 college football season has been on the Georgia Bulldogs surpassing the Alabama Crimson Tide as the best program in the sport.

Kirby Smart has won back-to-back national championships for the Bulldogs, including one against Nick Saban and the Tide. Alabama captured back-to-back national titles before Georgia in 2011 and 2012, but we live in a “what have you done for me lately?” society. People are ready to crown Georgia as the new standard, but Saban is not going to take that sitting down. All 14 head coaches of the Southeastern Conference are in Destin (Fla.) this week for spring meetings. Smart provided an interesting statement in answering a question on whether the Bulldogs have surpassed the Tide.

His statement comes via Brett McMurphy of Action Network.

A strong response from Smart as he chooses not to compare his program to Saban’s.

Smart is 1-4 all-time against Saban since becoming Georgia’s head coach in 2016. Both programs could face each other in the SEC Championship Game in the fall or in the College Football Playoff.
