We have made it to July and SEC Football Media Days are coming soon.
The University of Alabama looks to return to the College Football Playoff in the fall and win a national championship. Nick Saban has several talented players, but which ones will emerge as the most impactful?
The staff at Touchdown Alabama Magazine will spotlight numerous players for the upcoming season.
After looking at Ja’Corey Brooks, we continue with wide receivers and Jermaine Burton is next.
Hometown: Calabasas, Calif.
Position: Wide Receiver
Previous School: University of Georgia
Size: 6-0/194 pounds
2022 stats: 40 catches (team-high), 677 receiving yards (team-high), seven touchdown receptions
Strengths: Route-running, can separate from defenders, experience in the system, decent speed
Weaknesses: Needs to become consistent catching passes, does not have elite speed
Jermaine Burton was inconsistent in his first season as an Alabama wide receiver.
In transferring from Georgia, he had issues with dropped passes. Burton led the Crimson Tide with 40 receptions and 677 receiving yards, but he suffered drops in crucial moments. The 6-foot, 194-pounder got on the same page with Bryce Young late in the 2022 season; however, it could have been better if his consistency was there all year. He runs good routes, can separate from defenders, has experience in the system, and possesses decent speed, but Burton is not an explosive weapon at the position.
He is going to earn his NFL Draft stock by how well he catches passes from a new quarterback.
Whether it is Jalen Milroe, Ty Simpson, or Tyler Buchner, Burton has to prove he is a reliable option.
If he gains consistency, then Burton will help the Crimson Tide’s offense be successful.
