Despite battling back to make a return before the start of the regular season, the Washington Commanders placed defensive lineman Phidarian Mathis on the injured reserve on Thursday.

Mathis suffered a calf injury during the team’s preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Unfortunately for Mathis, the start of his NFL career has been stalled due to injuries as he suffered a torn meniscus just one game into the 2022 season which caused him the miss the remainder of the year. Now he will be sidelined for at least the first four weeks of the season.
