Brian Branch’s health status updated following ankle injury

Tork Mason/USA TODAY NETWORK - Wisconsin

A former Alabama defensive back has the Detroit Lions soaring through four weeks as a rookie.

Brian Branch, a native Georgian, led the Lions’ defense with seven total tackles (five solo) and a pass breakup in Thursday’s marquee divisional victory over the Green Bay Packers. Detroit is 3-1 on the season, holding first place in the NFC North.

Branch sustained an ankle injury in the win, but he received positive news afterward.

He had nothing broken on his ankle, despite limping to the locker room. Branch, a former four-star prospect, helped the Tide to a College Football Playoff National Champion in 2020 as a true freshman.

Mike Garafolo, an insider for NFL Network, reported the news on Branch after the game. Dan Campbell, head coach of the Lions, continues to be excited about the player he selected in the second round of the NFL Draft. After a 34-20 victory over the Packers, Branch faces his former Crimson Tide teammate — Bryce Young — this week as the Lions take on the Carolina Panthers.
