The Detroit Lions are bolstering its secondary as it has signed former Alabama defensive back Anthony Averrett.
The news was first reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Veteran CB Anthony Averett is signing to the #Lions' practice squad, per source.
Averett has played in 51 games with 27 starts with Baltimore and Las Vegas. Some needed experience for a Detroit secondary that just lost Emmanuel Moseley to a torn ACL.

The move comes after Lions cornerback Emmanuel Mosley was lost for the season with a torn ACL. Detroit is certainly getting a game-experienced player in Averett as he brings 27 career starts to the secondary.
Averett first entered the NFL in 2018 when he was a fourth-round selection by the Baltimore Ravens where he would play his first four seasons.
In 2022, Averett signed as a free agent with the Las Vegas Raiders where he appeared in just seven games as injuries impacted his season and was not brought back.
Averett signed with the San Francisco 49ers in the summer but was later released after going on IR.
In his career, Averett has appeared in 51 games recording 114 total tackles, three interceptions and 213 pass deflections.
