Nick Saban provided some insight into the relationship between Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa ahead of the Miami Dolphins’ game against the Philadephia Eagles.
Hurts and Tagovailoa were both members of the Crimson Tide’s football team in 2017 and 2018. Hurts started the entire regular season in 2017 en route to leading Alabama to the College Football Playoff National Championship. He was benched in the title game for Tagovailoa, and the Hawaii product delivered one of the greatest moments in college football when he hit DeVonta Smith for a walk-off touchdown on 2nd & 26 to defeat Georgia.
Both quarterbacks remained on Alabama’s roster the following season. Saban shined a light on what he saw from the pair during their time in Tuscaloosa Wednesday during the SEC Coaches Teleconference.
“I never had two players that were really, really good players at the same position who actually supported each other the way those two guys supported each other when they were here,” Saban said. “I think that comes from mutual respect, and both guys being good team guys.”
Both Hurts and Tagovailoa have their respective squads at 5-1. Hurts and the Eagles are coming off of a loss to the New York Jets. Tagovailoa and the Dolphins beat Bryce Young and the Panthers last week.
The Eagles and Dolphins will kick off their matchup at 7:20 p.m. CST on NBC.
