Former CFB coach compares Alabama QB Jalen Milroe to two college football legends

Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe drops back for a pass against Texas A&M
Troy Taormina - USA TODAY Sports

Jalen Milroe has been impressing everyone in the national media since returning as Alabama’s starting quarterback versus the Mississippi Rebels.

The Crimson Tide suffered a week two loss to Texas and struggled to beat South Florida, but Milroe has grown since then and has Alabama in a position to a Southeastern Conference Championship. He turned in a career performance in the passing game versus Texas A&M, totaling 321 yards and three touchdowns. Milroe had his best outing of the season against LSU, posting 219 passing yards, 155 rushing yards, and four touchdowns. He became the first Alabama quarterback to total four rushing touchdowns in a matchup. Milroe is starting to pick some consideration for the Heisman Trophy conversation, and a former college football head coach compared him to two college football legends. Urban Meyer, an analyst for Fox Sports, was a three-time national champion at Florida (2006, 2008) and Ohio State (2014). He told Tim May of On3 Sports the ‘Reggie Bush and Percy Harvin of college football is playing at Alabama.’

“He had 130 yards rushing, 20-something carries, 25 carries, and there are a couple of clips on that videotape that he is, other than Marvin Harrison, he’s the best athlete in college football and he’s touching the ball every snap at Alabama,” Meyer said to May about Milroe.

Percy Harvin was one of the most dynamic playmakers at the University of Florida.

He was an exceptional receiver, running back, and return specialist for Urban Meyer. Harvin assisted the Gators to two BCS National Championships in 2006 and 2008. Reggie Bush changed the way we looked at the running back position in college football at the University of Southern California. He delivered excellence in the running game, passing game, and return game.

Milroe is showing how special he can become with Meyer putting his name in a conversation with Harvin and Bush.

He has an opportunity to get even better in the intermediate passing game versus Kentucky.
