Hugh Freeze discussed the Auburn Tigers’ upcoming matchup with Alabama football during his Monday press conference.
The Auburn head coach expressed he thinks Alabama is one of the best teams he has seen “on film” this season.
Alabama currently sits at No. 8 in the College Football Playoff Rankings. The Crimson Tide are 10-1 and surging on both sides of the ball ahead of the Iron Bowl. Freeze feels the Tigers have to establish their run game to have success against the Tide’s impressive defense.
“No one is running too much on that defensive front,” Freeze said. “We’ll have a good plan and our backs are good and our tight ends are good and our O line is competitive, but we do need to establish run game. It will be no fun if you’re having to drop back and throw every down that, that won’t work. 15 and 41 off the edge for them are both really, really good. We need to stay balanced and make them have to at least honor the run game.”
Freeze and the Tigers are coming off a disappointing loss to New Mexico State, but they are looking to bounce back in the Iron Bowl.
“I think they’re (Alabama) playing at an extremely high level,” said Freeze. “What a rivalry to be a part of. We’re gonna try to educate our young men as best we can with use of former players and the history of this great game and hopefully they have a clear understanding of what it means to so many people.”
Saturday will be Freeze’s first Iron Bowl as the Auburn head coach.
