Eli Gold not being retained as “the voice” of Alabama football sent as much shock waves to Crimson Tide fans as Nick Saban’s retirement announcement.

Alabama fans did not like the way things were handled with Gold, who was the play-by-play radio broadcaster for seven national championships for Tide football. He was the soundtrack of Alabama football for 36 years, including all 17 years of the Saban era.

Chris Stewart now takes over as the football voice.

He’s been phenomenal on commentary for Alabama men’s basketball and baseball, but he also filled in for Gold in football when the legend battled cancer. Stewart is excited for the opportunity, and Alabama fans graded the move of making Stewart the new voice for Tide football on social media. The masses are happy with the selection, though they wish Gold could have one more year.

Stewart will begin his assignment as the voice of Alabama football on A-Day.
