Former Alabama quarterback Eli Holstein was named the starting quarterback for Pittsburgh ahead of its opening matchup with Kent State on Saturday according to a report from ESPN.
Holstein, a redshirt freshman, spent one season with the Crimson Tide but did not see any action during the 2023 campaign so Saturday.
Following the retirement of Nick Saban, Holstein entered the NCAA transfer portal where he would eventually land with the Panthers.
Holstein was a standout at Zachary High School in Louisianna where he threw for 7,014 yards and 62 touchdowns.
He will now be making his collegiate debut as Pitt hopes to jumpstart its offense this season.
