What are three bright spots from Alabama’s gut-wrenching loss to Michigan?

Alabama fans were left with a lot of questions following the Crimson Tide’s loss to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl. There were not many positive takeaways, but there were a few bright spots, however. Today, I will list three bright spots from Alabama’s fourth loss of the 2024 season.

1. Alabama’s defense bent but never broke.

Despite the loss, Alabama’s defense seemed to hold its own for the majority of the game. The lone touchdown that Alabama allowed was a result of Michigan taking over the ball on Alabama’s 16-yard line after a turnover. The Wolverines did not go the length of the field on the Crimson Tide’s defense during the game, which is a testament to the defensive staff, the players, and the defensive gameplan. The defense as a whole seems to be trending in the right direction heading into the offseason.

2. Underclassmen along d-line made most of opportunities.

Several of Alabama’s defensive linemen made some big plays during the ReliaQuest Bowl. Several of which were underclassmen including freshman Jeremiah Beaman, redshirt freshman James Smith, redshirt freshman Keon Keeley, and redshirt freshman Jordan Renaud. Smith and Renaud were a part of the defensive line rotation for the majority of the 2024 season. However, Beaman, and Keeley both seemed to receive more opportunities in the bowl game. The four of them combined to record 10 tackles, one sack, and three tackles for loss. That could go a long way for each of them if they decide to continue their careers with Alabama.

3. Wide receiver Rico Scott showed promise.

Despite having just one touch, Rico Scott looked like a playmaker just waiting for the opportunity to shine. The Pennsylvania native played sparingly during his freshman season. However, he made his first career start in the ReliaQuest Bowl. He had one carry for 28 yards. Oddly enough, his 28-yard rush helped him become the team’s leading rusher on Tuesday afternoon. The former four-star has the potential to do special things. It will be interesting to see if he can carve out a role in the wide receiver room for the 2025 season.
