Dallas Cowboys edge rusher, Micah Parsons was a highly recruited prospect, and Alabama football was a program he considered going to.
Parsons was joined by Alabama great, now Baltimore Ravens running back, Derrick Henry, Friday on his podcast “The Edge.” Henry sat down with Parsons and asked what ultimately made him pick Penn State over Alabama.
“I’m going to tell you right now, and this is the God’s honest truth, I went to Bama for four days,” Parsons said. “I went out there. I said let me go see what it’s like down South. I’m from up North. It was so hot, so hot. The workout conditions were so treacherous that I said there’s no way in hell that I could survive up here. It was just too much for me. Yo, I saw the workouts, and I was like, “I’m good”.
Parsons went on to elaborate to Henry about being stunned by seeing the Crimson Tide’s series of relentless workouts while on his visit.
“I was like, ‘dang, they really work over here,” Parsons said. “I definitely appreciate it. I can get better. But then by the weekend, I was just like, I don’t think I can make it. That Friday workout came, and how hot it was. I was sweating on golf carts. It was just too much, and I just said, ‘It ain’t for me. Bama ain’t for everybody.”
Parsons also explained why he knew he wouldn’t enjoy his time in Tuscaloosa and why Happy Valley was ultimately the place for him.
“All I’m going to say is, I believe you should enjoy your college experience,” Parsons said. “When I went to Bama, it just looked like and smelled like survive and struggle. When I went to Penn State, it’s called Happy Valley. It was happy and ice cream, and I said this is the place I belong. I think this is best for me.”
Parsons went on to have a successful career at Penn State, solidifying himself as one of the top defensive prospects in college football before entering the NFL.
