2026 four-star edge rusher Jamarion Matthews has committed to Alabama. Matthews chose the Crimson Tide over Florida, LSU, and Clemson among others.
The Alabama native has been a priority target for the Alabama coaching staff since an offer was extended to him in October. Matthews previously spoke with Touchdown Alabama about what the offer meant to him.
“One of my goals was to get an offer from this school, because my grandma was a true Alabama fan and her not being able to watch my high school football career on this earth,” Matthews told Touchdown Alabama, “Me being able to get an offer from one of the biggest college football programs in college football tells me I’m doing something right.”
Matthews was definitely doing something right. After Alabama offered him, other schools like Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Clemson, LSU, and Florida State offered him. However, it was Alabama that stood out the most to Matthews and ultimately led to him committing to the Crimson Tide.
“My overall thoughts on Alabama’s program are very high,” Matthews said, “The atmosphere they have, the tradition, how much staff cares for the players outside of football. Everything at Alabama was just good to hear.”
Matthews projects as a Wolf in Alabama’s defense. He is listed at 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds. During his junior year of high school, Matthews recorded 57 tackles and 17 sacks.
On Thursday, Matthews made the announcement that he was transferring from Sparkman High School (AL) to Gainesville High School (AL). He will now be a teammate of 2026 four-star linebacker and Alabama target Xavier Griffin. Griffin is currently committed to USC.
Matthews is the third commitment in the ’26 class joining interior offensive lineman Chris Booker and cornerback Zyan Gibson.
