Kalen DeBoer sends warning to players entering transfer portal

Now that Alabama has wrapped up its spring football sessions, the Crimson Tide staff will now turn its attention from the practice field to the transfer portal which is due to officially open on Wednesday April 16.

Following a winter transfer window which saw 23 players depart for the portal, Alabama will likely expect more to test waters elsewhere beginning this week.

But the grass isn’t always greener for those who venture elsewhere, which is a warning that head coach Kalen DeBoer reiterated when speaking with the media on Monday.

“The guys that you want around you, whether it’s coaches or players, they have a good head on their shoulders,” DeBoer said. “They can have perspective on what they really, truly have here at Alabama. And it’s special, whether it’s the resources that they have and the people that they have around them, in the training room, in the weight room. The coaching staff, I think, is elite as well.

“And so these guys are getting and experience that they should not take for granted. We can talk about the stories of guys who have come in and said how great it is here, or guys that have left, and you know, maybe even wishing they could come back.

“Be careful what you ask for. The grass is definitely not greener on the other side.”

Despite the odds of Alabama seeing players depart, the window also allows opportunity for DeBoer and his staff to test the market and make further additions to the roster.

The spring transfer portal will remain open until April 25.
