Former Alabama safety, Roman Harper feels the Crimson Tide’s defense is playing harder and with more effort, but there is still something he hates about Alabama’s defensive unit.
The Tide’s defense has improved since their first game of the season against Florida State. They were instrumental in the Tide’s wins over ULM, Wisconsin and Georgia.
Harper feels the effort Alabama’s defense is playing with could mask what he considers a glaring issue.
“I saw a little switch and change in Alabama’s defense,” Harper said as a guest on “Next Round Live”. “I thought that they were playing with the right amount of effort. I still hate their eye discipline, and I still don’t like some other things about their defense, but you can make up for it when you play hard and you play with effort, like effort makes up for mistakes. You aim to be perfect, but it’s an imperfect game played by imperfect people, so mistakes will happen. But how close can you be to perfect as you can be? Because that’s what I’m always trying to grade upon. But when you play with a sense of effort and a sense of urgency, you can make up for those things. Then you also got to be a little lucky, having a Georgia wide receiver drop a pass, which clearly should have been a touchdown. A little luck. Also on the fourth down stop in the end zone, in the Red Zone that Georgia O-line didn’t really block. Alabama didn’t wasn’t even aligned correctly.”
Alabama’s eye disciplin will be tested against an explosive Vanderbilt team on Saturday.
