Why Ty Simpson says it is his ‘fault’ Alabama struggled in first half against Vanderbilt

Ty Simpson feels he has to shoulder some of the responsibility for the slow start the Alabama offense had against Vanderbilt early in the game.

Alabama trailed the Commodores at times in the first half before ultimately tying the game 14-14 before halftime. Simpson’s early interception played a role in some of the Tide’s early struggles against the Commodores.

The signal caller took full responsibility for the slow start after the game, stating the Tide had too many negative plays early in the game.

“I think that’s what killed us in the first half, and it’s really my fault,” Simpson told reporters. “I’m looking at the stats. We had too many negative plays from holdings. I took four sacks. I can’t do that. I got to throw the ball away and just negative plays in general. I think that’s what kind of set us back. We got on the track in the middle first half to the second half.”

Simpson finished the game with 340 yards and two touchdowns en route to completing 74 percent of his passes. He was able to get things back on track and made some impressive throws in the second half to help the Tide gain a lead over Vanderbilt, which they continued to extend late into the game.

Alabama improved to 4-1 on the season with the win. The Tide will travel next week to take on undefeated Missouri in Columbia.
