What Ty Simpson told Ryan Williams when the wideout was ‘in his own head’

Alabama football’s wide receiver, Ryan Williams has been in his own head as of late, according to the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback Ty Simpson.

Williams has had an up-and-down sophomore campaign as he battled through a nagging injury, a concussion and the backlash that came with him dropping passes in games earlier in the season.

The star wideout looked to be back in a groove against the Tennessee Vols on Saturday night. He literally caught everything thrown his way, finishing the night with five receptions for 87 yards after not recording a catch against Missouri.

Simpson was asked about Williams’ bounce back performance Saturday after the Tide defeated Tennessee.

“Ryan’s, like, the top player in the nation,” Simpson said. “He gets in his own head sometimes because he has so much expectation for himself on who he thinks he needs to be. We’ve had a lot of talks because that’s literally like my little brother. I’m just like, dude, like, just be you, forget all the outside noise because that guy, he has so much pressure on himself from everybody, from the media to himself. He’s a big time player, man. And so him being able to, I think he had, he was five and five, five targets, five receptions. Everybody expects him to do that. So really, really proud of him and have for him. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Like, he’s gonna keep going.”

Williams and Simpson will look to expand on their connection some more against South Carolina next Saturday.
