Alabama football only rushed for 56 yards against the LSU Tigers as the Crimson Tide continue to struggle to run the football.
This has been a constant theme for Alabama during its latest outings. They simply have not been able to run the football with great production at a consistent level.
Daniel Hill was Alabama’s most productive running back against LSU but even his final stat line was not impressive. He ended the game with 21 yards and one touchdown on seven carries. Jam Miller had fewer yards with more attempts, finishing the game with 13 yards on eight carries.
Kalen DeBoer was asked about this lack of production in the run game on Saturday night after Alabama defeated LSU 20-9.
“I think there’s a lot of things,” DeBoer said. “I think there’s other things we can do to make a defense have to cover us. And we missed opportunities that would help open up the box a little bit. But we certainly, either one or two things on each play is do a better job blocking and then do a good job of being physical with the ball in our hands, too, falling ahead for yards, those extra one or two yards, three yards that you can get by running through arm tackles and things like that, those can hurt. We got to do a better job giving lanes for the running back to go hit it confidently and hit it hard. It’s everything. It’s an effort across the board. When we run on the perimeter, let’s make sure we get the blocks out there. We certainly got to be better than what we were.”
Alabama looks as if it will have to go back to the drawing board once again to come up with a way to run the football with better efficiency.
