Alabama football’s defensive coordinator Kane Wommack provided a detail breakdown of what makes the Indiana offense a challenge to defend while talking to media members on Sunday.

The Crimson Tide will have its hands full with what Womack believes is a very disciplined Indiana offense with 2025 Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza leading it.

“Offensively, I think they are highly efficient, very explosive,” Wommack said. “That starts with their quarterback. He knows where to go with the ball. He’s very decisive, makes great decisions with the ball and can make all the throws and can make the explosive plays when it matters most. They’re very disciplined, very detailed, probably as disciplined and as detailed as an offense as we have faced. I think their physicality shows up on tape. They play the game physical from an offensive line standpoint.”

While the Alabama defensive coordinator believes the Hoosiers’ offense can create explosive plays, he is also aware Indiana’s offense can also control the pace of a game with a physical rushing attack paired with some well-timed run-pass option plays.

“I think they do a great job of if you’ll give them four yards and a cloud of dust, they’ll take it all day long, and they’ve got great RPO answers, matched off of their run game as well,” Wommack said. “But I think the thing that stands out probably as much as anything is they make plays when it matters most, and they have made the plays to put them in position to be undefeated to this point in the season. So, it’s a great challenge. One that we are very much looking forward to.”

The Hoosiers have three running backs who have rushed for more than 400 yards this season. Roman Hemby is Indiana’s leading rusher with 918 rushing yards. Kaelon Black is Indiana’s second-leading rusher with 799 rushing yards.

Alabama and Indiana will get after it in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day.
