Big Ten team targeting former Alabama DC Jeremy Pruitt to be a defensive assistant

Maryland is reportedly targeting Jeremy Pruitt to be a defensive assistant, according to Football Scoop.

Pruitt is a former Alabama defensive coordinator. He coached the Crimson Tide in the role during the 2016 and 2017 seasons and helped produce top defensive units.

Pruitt’s last college coaching job was at Tennessee. He was fired with cause after three seasons as the Volunteers’ head coach after an internal investigation revealed NCAA recruiting violations. The NCAA eventually handed Pruitt a six-year show-cause order.

However, an Alabama judge granted Pruitt a preliminary injunction in December and put an abrupt stop to the NCAA show-cause, allowing Pruitt to coach again. The order was a part of Pruitt’s $100 million lawsuit against the NCAA.

Maryland’s head coach Mike Locksley coached at Alabama as an assistant when Pruitt was on the Crimson Tide’s staff.
