Alabama football priority in-state defensive back target eyeing summer commitment

Alabama football’s defensive back target and Thompson High School 11th grader Junior James is eyeing a summer commitment decision.

James is one of the fastest rising 2027 prospects in the country, and he tells Touchdown Alabama he is eyeing making a commitment decision during the summer with Alabama, Auburn, BYU, Florida, Texas, Oregon and Texas A&M among the schools recruiting him hard.

The junior plans to take official visits during the summer, with an official visit to Alabama in June pending.

The Crimson Tide got James on campus for an unofficial visit on Junior Day in January, and the visit put the Tide in a good position with the defensive back.

“Coach Jones and I have a close relationship with each other,” James told Touchdown Alabama. “Ever since I went to the camp in June, me and him have been connected and building a relationship. He toured me around the entire facility while speaking with my family, my little siblings and to me. I feel like it was a blessing to have him treat my family with hospitality and as if it was his own. I also had a chance to speak with Coach DeBoer and got to know him better as a coach and coach Wommack to see how he runs his defense.”

At 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, James was a ball-hawking defensive back for the Warriors during the last football season. He displayed versatility while lining up at different spots within the Warriors’ defense. He was exceptional against the run when he was called upon to get downhill and make tackles. He also stood out in coverage with his length.
