Former Alabama quarterback names late season SEC matchup as the Tide’s biggest trap game

The Alabama Crimson Tide will be on the road in Nashville to face the Vanderbilt Commodores during Week 11 of the 2026 campaign. 

Alabama most recently defeated Vanderbilt in Tuscaloosa during the 2025 season by a final score of 30-14. The Tide will seek revenge on the road against the Commodores this season, as Vanderbilt was able to defeat Alabama in shocking fashion at FirstBank Stadium in 2024. 

Legendary Alabama quarterback and current ESPN analyst Greg McElroy recently shared his thoughts on the Tide’s upcoming matchup with the Commodores, as McElroy believes the contest will have the potential to be the biggest trap game of the year.

“The trap game is at Vanderbilt on November 14th.” McElroy said. “This is maybe the best one on the board, because Alabama travels to Nashville the week after a trip to LSU to face the exact same Vanderbilt team that hung 40 on the Tide in that building back in 2024, and Vandy just went 10-3. Kalen DeBoer knows how important this game will be, and how precisely this movie can end because they have already lived through it one time before a couple of years back.”

The Tide were able to defeat the Commodores in impressive fashion last season despite McElroy’s comments. The former Alabama star was the first Crimson Tide quarterback to win a National Championship under head coach Nick Saban, and McElroy was ultimately drafted in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the New York Jets after four seasons in Tuscaloosa. 

Alabama will more than likely find themselves in a critical spot against the Commodores in Nashville this year. The Tide will undoubtedly need to be at their best against an extremely talented and experienced Vanderbilt team, and Alabama’s young core on both sides of the football will face a true test on the road during the heart of SEC play.
