1 former Alabama player named as honorable mention on list of top NFL wide receivers by coaches, execs

One former Alabama player was listed in ESPN’s recent article on the top NFL wide receivers, according to NFL executives, coaches and scouts.

Jameson Williams, who played at Alabama for one season, found himself outside of the top 10, listed as an honorable mention. He was the only former Alabama player mentioned in the article.

“He can fly and is slippery. His speed opens up intermediate cuts. Getting in and out of breaks is not natural to him, but he’s improved there. He goes across the field, uses all 53 yards. Hands aren’t as consistent,” an anonymous NFL coordinator told ESPN. 

The Detroit Lions’ wide receiver coach Scottie Montgomery recently expressed he felt Williams has a chance to go from good to elite this season.

“We’ve worked very hard this preseason, even talking on the phone about the details needed to go from being a good player to being truly elite in our sport,” Montgomery said, according to MLive’s Kory Woods. “And then, from a mental standpoint, the way we work, not just at the beginning of a drill, but also at the end. Everything we do, his details, his vision, his catch points, his control points, everything we’re doing now, we did it in March and April, and it showed. We’re very excited about his current level. Without a doubt, this has been his best preseason, his best opportunity to grow as a player since we’ve been here for several reasons, but he’s done a good job.”

The former Alabama wideout is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons.
