What led to Blake Sims’ infamous celebration after Alabama took lead over LSU in 2012

Before Blake Sims was leading Alabama football’s offense as a starting quarterback, he was grabbing the attention of the cameras on the sideline.

One moment came when T.J. Yeldon pulled in a late reception and took it in for six late against LSU in 2012 to put the Tide in position to win the game late in the fourth. After the score, the television broadcast switched to a camera on the sideline, and Sims was captured telling Tiger fans to “suck it,” among other words.

“This big dude, he’s about 350,” Sims said on “The Dynasty Podcast.” “I mean no ounce of muscle on his body, and he has a little mini-me that looks just like him. I mean, every time they stopped us on third down, AJ would come sit down because, you know, we’ll huddle AJ and hear what’s going on. They were just rocking, suck that, Tiger. You know what I’m saying? And he just throwing beer everywhere. And I’m just like, we go out here, we come back. Oh, I’m gonna give it to you. And I just seen how Montgomery and all them came off that line. And AJ just, once I seen TJ’s hand, I just turned around and smiled at him. And I was like, yeah, boy.
And then next thing you know, when I jumped off the bench, I looked to the left, but it’s like two cameras. I’m like, oh yeah, Saban about to get me.”

AJ McCarron provided a recap of Saban’s reaction to Sims’ doing it.

“I remember the team meeting coach being like, gosh darn it, Blake, did you say this?”  McCarron said.
