Alabama football not done recruiting 2027 wide receivers after missing on Monshun Sales

Alabama football would love to have Monshun Sales verbally committed to the Crimson Tide right now, and there is also a good chance Alabama continues to try to recruit him.

Either way, it has become clear to Touchdown Alabama that the Tide is not done adding talent to its roster at the wide receiver position via the 2027 recruiting class.

Two 2027 wideouts are verbally committed to Alabama, with Cedric Simmons flipping his commitment to the Tide last week, joining Osani Gayles, who committed to Alabama last month.

The potential outlook at the wide receiver position for Alabama after the upcoming college football season is a bit in the air at the moment because the transfer portal has made it difficult to predict what a team’s roster may look like a year away. It is considerably easier to make a prediction on which wide receiver will potentially leave for the NFL. Ryan Coleman-Williams, Rico Scott and Noah Rogers could be the Tide’s notable draft-eligible wide receivers once the season concludes. Will all three leave for the NFL? At least one or two of them likely will.

One can easily make a case for predicting the Tide could lose three to four wideouts after the 2026 season to the portal and the NFL. As a result, adding three wide receivers in the 2027 recruiting class appears to be a good idea.

As mentioned earlier, the Tide could continue to recruit Sales, but they can not hang their hat on flipping him.

Alabama recently offered Jalijah Rutledge out of Moody High School in Alabama, and he is committed to App State. The Tide immediately made themselves the favorite to flip him in the future the moment they offered him.

“Alabama has a great track record of developing wide receivers,” Rutledge told Touchdown Alabama after earning an offer from the Tide. “They prepare players for the next level by pushing them to compete every day, and they’ve produced a lot of talented receivers who have gone on to have success in college and the NFL. That’s something every receiver pays attention to.”

Alabama also recently kicked the tires to gauge Ja’Hyde Brown’s interest. Brown is an elite receiver out of Kentucky, and he is committed to Louisville. Alabama hosted him several times when JaMarcus Shephard was the Tide’s wide receiver coach, and they look like a serious contender early in his recruitment.

Brown remains committed to Louisville, but he has expressed interest in hearing other programs out.

We are considering everything,” Brown told Touchdown Alabama. “It’s a huge decision for my future.”

Outside of Rutledge and Brown, the Tide could have their eyes on a wide receiver who impresses in the upcoming high school football season, so it would be no surprise if new offers come out to 2027 wide receivers.
