Alabama football’s tight ends emphasizing being extra blockers in run game

Alabama football’s tight ends are doing their job to help the Crimson Tide have a better rushing attack during the upcoming season.

This approach to having better blocking tight ends appears to be connected with the hiring of Richard Owens to coach the position.

Alabama hired Owens after the 2025 football season. He played tight end in the NFL for multiple years and coached the Louisville offensive line before coming to Tuscaloosa. Touchdown Alabama asked Kaleb Edwards, who started six games at tight end for Alabama last season, whether he felt there was more of an emphasis on blocking better as a group at the Tide’s media day.
