Danny Kanell taking aim at the Southeastern Conference is a tale as old as time, and another page was written over the weekend.
Kanell, went at former Alabama head coach once again last Friday when Saban made an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show and was joking with the crew about an exchange he had with Miami head coach and former Alabama assistant Mario Cristobal. Saban shared that Cristobal always tries to convince him that the ACC is better than the SEC.
“He’s always trying to convince me the ACC’s better than the SEC,” Saban said. “The SEC has nine teams in the top 25. That’s all I know. It’s a deep conference. It just is. The Big Ten is a really good conference and getting better when it comes to depth, but really good at the top with Ohio State and Oregon.
“He’s never going to convince me – never – that the ACC is better than the SEC.
That comment got the attention of the former Florida State quarterback which prompted him to go after Saban on social media.
“Company man Saban is the one slinging that SEC BS,” Kanell said on X. “After losing to 2 ACC teams in reg season the Canes man-handled Texas AM at Kyle field – the place every SEC fan says is impossible to win. Overpowered Ohio State. Beat Ole Miss.
“The Canes are 5-0 vs SEC in the last 5 games.”
The Hurricanes certainly saw it’s share of success a season ago as it made its run to the national championship game despite the conference finishing the season with only one other team ranked by the conclusion of the year (Virginia No. 16).
