Rutgers names former Alabama quarterback its starter

Rutgers has named Dylan Lonergan its starting quarterback ahead of the 2026 season, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Lonergan started his career at Alabama and was a four-star recruit when he signed with the Crimson Tide as a member of its 2023 recruiting class. He spent two seasons in Tuscaloosa before transferring to Boston College to play under former Tide offensive coordinator, Bill O’Brien.

Lonergan started in nine games for O’Brien and Boston College last season and completed 190-of-284 passes for 2,025 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The Georgia native will once again be one of multiple  quarterbacks who signed with Alabama but will play elsewhere this fall.

Boston College opens the season against UMass on Sept. 3.
