Former Alabama running back Damien Harris is one of several people who are not a fan of Dae’Quan Wright transferring to LSU after getting waived by the Cleveland Browns.
Wright signed with the Philadelphia Eagles after going undrafted out of Ole Miss after the 2025 season. He was then claimed off waivers by the Cleveland Browns. After not playing in preseason games with Cleveland due to an injury, reports surfaced Wright would return to college and transfer to LSU.
The tight end was able to enter the transfer portal and gain another year of eligibility after a group of players in Louisiana were granted a temporary restraining order to do so after filing a lawsuit. Harris expressed his feelings towards this move on CBS Sports.
“I’m gonna be very candid,” Harris said. “I think that this is embarrassing. I think to go through an NFL training camp, go through the process of being selected or being signed as an undrafted free agent, going through the preseason, playing preseason football, playing NFL football, and then returning to college and taking up a roster spot from somebody who is deserving of their time there, I just, think that this is very elementary, and I know that there are a lot of laws. There are a lot of different things going on in college football to where the players have the control, and they’re doing exactly what they want with it, and this is an exact example of that.”
“You’ve got a guy who, like I said, has gone through and gotten NFL experience just to go back to college to make more money and have more, more opportunity that he’s already had his time. He’s already had his time. If I’m an NFL GM and I’m looking at guys like this who could potentially be coming out next year, these aren’t guys that I wanna draft because I don’t know how competitive they are. I don’t know how much they love football. I don’t know how hard they’re willing to work in order to prove themselves on a football team and earn their spot. I can’t guarantee that a guy like this is a guy that I would build a program around. So I think in totality, this is, this is Bush League. The college football, the NCAA landscape has become that, kinda like what we saw from Danny’s tweet. It’s become this over the course of some years, and to see where the game is now, see where the NCAA is, see where athletes are trying to finesse the system of both college and NFL, I think it’s very elementary.”
Wright played for Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss in 2024 and 2025.
