Alabama DC tabs senior defender as a “Swiss army knife” entering 2026

Alabama linebacker Jah-Marien Latham is expected to begin the year fully healthy after suffering a season-ending neck injury during practice in 2025.

Latham is a massive linebacker with a plethora of experience on the Crimson Tide’s defense. Latham emerged as a clear standout during his freshman campaign at Alabama in 2020 despite being buried on the depth chart, and the senior will now enter his seventh season in Tuscaloosa as a key contributor on the Tide’s defensive line.

Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack recently praised Latham for his versatility, as Wommack claims the veteran is similar to a ‘Swiss army knife’ on the gridiron.

“He’s just a great football player.” Wommack said. “He’s kind of always been our Swiss army knife, he can do multiple things for us. I think you guys will see him at the Wolf position, at the Bandit position, he used to play three technique for us as well in a pinch, and even on some third down pass rush situations he can do that. Good football players just find their way on the field, and he’s just a really good football player.”

Latham appeared in just one game last season prior to suffering his season-ending neck injury during practice. The senior played a critical role on the Tide’s defensive unit from 2022-2024, and Latham appears to be playing at an elite level yet again following Wommack’s comments on Wednesday.
