Former Alabama RB Trent Richardson ‘hearing so many good things’ about Tide freshman back

Trent Richardson, who is one of the best running backs in Alabama football history, keeps hearing good things come out of Alabama’s fall camp about Trae’shawn Brown.

Brown is a freshman running back for the Crimson Tide. He is expected to play early in Tuscaloosa after a strong spring and a successful fall camp.

“Heard so many good things about this kid,” Richardson said on “The Dynasty” podcast. “Talking about the way he break tackles. He’s not scared to drop that bean bucket, then drop that shoulder to run somebody over. He picking up blocks and that’s another thing that people don’t realize too. Once you can pass block, and I talk about how me and AJ (McCarron) relationship was, but AJ was more comfortable throwing to me when he got in trouble because I was blocking for his tail too, right? So, you know, once you’re able to do that and be more expendable beyond just, okay, what can he do with the football in his hand? Do he have any football knowledge… being able to have that type of knowledge is key. And so I think everything coach is saying about him and everything I’ve heard to this point, I think that is all great news, especially for the depth of the running backs that they have in this room.”

Kalen DeBoer recently said he continues to feel more comfortable with the running back.

“You just feel more and more comfortable with him out there,” DeBoer said after the Tide’s second scrimmage. “I felt pretty good about him as a ball carrier, based on what we saw this spring. You’re just always working on ball security and things that just, it’s faster at the college level, but he’s really adapted well. And then it just leads into pass protections and checks the quarterback makes, you can see just he’s a smart guy. It matters to him. He’s definitely not noticeable in a bad way out there. He’s going out there and making plays and continuing to progress.”

Brown will be a player to watch in the Tide’s season opener against East Carolina.
