What did Alabama football’s new wide receiver coach tell Ryan Coleman-Williams to focus on?

Ryan Coleman-Williams is set to enter a crucial year for him this fall.

The junior wide receiver will be eligible to declare for the NFL Draft after the upcoming season, and he could very well be preparing for his last year at Alabama. He will be playing under Derrick Nix for the first time, and Nix is in his first season as the Tide’s wide receiver coach.

Coleman-Williams, who played under JaMarcus Shephard during his first two seasons in Tuscaloosa, has embraced having Nix as his wide receiver coach.

Nix has brought several ‘different ways’ the wide receiver ‘can affect the offense’ to Coleman-Williams’ attention.

“Just focusing in on, I keep saying it, top of the route stuff to make it, make myself friendly for the quarterback. So, he will wanna throw it to me,” Coleman-Williams said on “Hey Coach” while discussing what Nix has told him to focus on. “Down the field blocks to help out my running back, spring open big runs, just communicating throughout the huddle, off the field because there’s no such thing as over-communicating. I’m just extremely thankful that he’s pointed out those things, and it’s just been a heavy emphasis on being your best in all aspects of football.”

Coleman-Williams is coming off a season where he had 689 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns on 49 receptions.

The Alabama wide receiver recently garnered a lot of attention when he said he would not wear gloves this fall.
