On Monday, Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb said offensive lineman William Sanders was dealing with an oblique injury last week.
Sanders started at left guard, and sophomore Mal Waldrep Jr. rotated in at times during Saturday’s game against East Carolina.
Grubb discussed both of Alabama football’s left guards during Monday’s press conference.
“Will [Sanders] was dealing with a little bit of an oblique [injury], so trying to help him out to get him through the game,” Grubb said. “He had battled through it all week, and he’s doing great now. We knew we had a guy in Mal [Waldrep Jr.] that had taken a lot of reps with the ones all camp, so, felt good about getting both of those guys out there and get them reps. Certainly, would have loved to see Will be able to finish the game. He came back out there, but we like to keep the lineup as consistent as possible.”
An oblique injury bothered Sanders last week, but Grubb believes the junior offensive lineman will be good to go for the Kentucky game.
Sanders and Waldrep Jr. each allowed one pressure on Saturday, per PFF.
Based on Grubb’s comments, the Crimson Tide are looking to keep the lineup as consistent as possible. If Sanders can stay healthy and play well, the junior offensive lineman could remain on the field more.
Alabama will play at Kentucky on Saturday. The game is set for 2:30 p.m. CT and will air on ABC.
