Alabama head football coach Kalen DeBoer updated the status of multiple injured Alabama players while speaking to the media on Monday.
Offensive guard Michael Carroll popped up on the SEC Student-Athlete Availability Report last week before the Kentucky game, and DeBoer expressed that he’s confident Carroll will get back out on the field soon.
“Michael, we’ll continue to work with him,” DeBoer said. “I feel confident that we’ll get there, but we’ll just kinda see how the week goes. I think it’s heading in a good direction. We hope to get him back.”
The next player that DeBoer addressed was running back AK Dear. He’s trying to work his way back from a lower-body injury, and DeBoer said he’s making progress.
“AK is making good progress,” he said. “I think he was getting closer towards the end of the week. Again, reset and we’ll see where he’s at today and then tomorrow. Get out there hopefully more on the practice field. He was doing some light practice, doing some things with us last week already.”
DeBoer added that Dear’s mindset has been excellent throughout the recovery process and is on track to come back quicker than expected.
NC State transfer wide receiver Noah Rogers suffered a lower-body injury during Alabama’s A-Day in the spring, and DeBoer updates his status.
“Noah, we took him on the trip [to Kentucky],” DeBoer said. “He didn’t play. We weren’t expecting him to play, but that kind of gives an indication of how close we are, and again, we’ll see how the week of practice goes. I would say in the next week or two, you can see him out there helping us out.”
Freshman cornerback Zyan Gibson showed up on the injury report last week, and DeBoer said he was sick. That kept him out, and DeBoer expects to have him back soon.
Alabama will host Florida State this Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on ABC.
