Wommack feels Georgia OC is one of the best play callers he has faced

Alabama football’s defensive coordinator Kane Wommack looks to be preparing for what could be a chess match between him and Georgia’s offensive coordinator Mike Bobo.

Georgia and Alabama are set to square off in a top-10 matchup in Tuscaloosa on Saturday. Per usual, the game is setting up to be one of the most highly anticipated matchups of the season. The Bulldogs’ offense will come into the matchup as one of the best offenses in college football, while the Crimson Tide’s defense will enter Saturday’s game as one of the most productive units in the sport.

The matchup between the two units is sure to be about the jimmies and joes and the X’s and O’s. Wommack and Bobo will have to take care of the X’s and O’s part.

Wommack praised Bobo on Monday to open the week.

“Mike Bobo, I’ve said this before, is one of the best play callers I’ve ever gone against,” Wommack told reporters. “I think he does a great job of playing a complimentary run, play action, finding ways to attack the perimeter. And they do it with a lot of people.”

The play of Georgia’s starting quarterback Gunner Stockton is only elevating Bobo’s scheme, according to Wommack.

“He’s getting the ball to a number of guys,” Wommack said. “They have a number of offensive weapons, and they’re really kind of spreading the ball around to those guys as well and certainly they have an identity, and they seem to be leaning into that identity, which moving into the halfway point of the season is all you can ask for out of your team.”

The highly anticipated matchup is set to kick off at 6:30 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ABC.
