Reports: Former Alabama head football coach passes away at 75

Former Alabama head football coach Dennis Franchione died on Tuesday, his family confirmed to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He was 75.

Franchione came to Alabama in 2001 and coached two seasons before leaving for Texas A&M in 2002.

Before he got to Alabama, the Crimson Tide finished 3-8 in 2000. Franchione took over in 2001 and led the Crimson Tide to a 7-5 season. He coached Alabama to a 10-win season the following year and won the 2002 Independence Bowl.

With NCAA sanctions looming after violations under previous head coach Mike DuBose, Franchione decided to leave Alabama and become the new head football coach of the Texas A&M Aggies.

He finished his coaching career at Texas State in 2015.
