Alabama players locking in on stopping fast, physical Tennessee back

Tennessee running back DeSean Bishop (18) tries to get past Arkansas defensive back Joker Johnson (20) during a college football game at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville, Ark., on Oct. 10, 2026.

Alabama’s defense will face a massive test on the road against Tennessee this weekend.

The unit as a whole will need to limit Tennessee on the ground as much as possible. Alabama’s run defense struggled immensely against Georgia on Saturday, and the Tide are now set to face an elite running back in Volunteers’ star DeSean Bishop.

Crimson Tide linebacker Luke Metz was recently asked about Bishop, as Metz claims the unit as a whole will be ready for him despite his recent success.

“He’s patient.” Metz said. “He’s a fast back, physical. I think he weighs like 215, something like that. So we’ll be ready for him, we’ve faced a lot of good backs this year but he’s definitely one of them.”

Metz is credited with 15 total tackles, one interception and one touchdown across the first 6 weeks of the 2026 season. The sophomore has burst onto the scene as an elite linebacker in year two, and Metz appears to be focused on limiting Bishop following an underwhelming performance from the unit as a whole against Georgia.
