Alabama wide receivers fighting for reps with status of Ryan Coleman-Williams uncertain

Competition is still very much alive inside of Alabama football’s wide receiver room, and the depth of this group is likely to be tested against Tennessee on Saturday.

The Crimson Tide will likely be without Ryan Coleman-Williams after he suffered an injury against Georgia.

With the star wideout possibly sidelined, Alabama’s offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb addressed the status of Alabama’s wide receiver group on Monday.

“We got a group of really competitive players,” Grubb said. “Noah’s (Rogers) really progressing. We think he’s really pretty close to 100 percent now. Derek Meadows has shown up. He made a nice play at the end of the game there, and so we’re lucky to have that many guys. Cederian (Morgan) does a great job backing up Lottie (Lotzeir Brooks) and has shown up in a couple different scenarios. So we got guys that are fighting for reps and ready to go. You look at a guy like Rico (Scott) and where he was at last year at this time and how he’s starting to step up into his role. I think, for guys on the offense and for our team in general, we’ve been talking about this offensively for a long time that it’s not if, it’s when the spotlight’s going to find multiple guys on this football team, and it’ll continue to do that. That’s an SEC football season and there’s going to be injuries. There’s going to be guys that have to overcome moments and guys are going to have to switch positions. We feel really confident that we got guys that can step into those roles and especially in the wide receiver room where we’re deep.”

Coleman-Williams leads Alabama in receiving yards with 415 on 23 receptions. Brooks’ numbers are similar to Coleman-Williams as he also has 23 receptions to go along with 389 yards and one touchdowns. Scott is the Tide’s third leading receiver with 224 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

It will be interesting to see how snaps are distrubted at wide receiver for Alabama Saturday if Coleman-Williams does not go as expected.
