Former Alabama players criticize Tide’s pass defense strategy vs. Tennessee

There are several former Alabama players who are upset with the off coverage the Crimson Tide’s defensive backs played against Tennessee.

Kareem Jackson, who played 15 years in the NFL and won a National Championship with the Tide, feels the coverage the Tide played against the Vols allowed George MacIntyre to dink and dunk his way through the Alabama defense.

“Tenn. QB ain’t threw a pass over 10 yards all day and the DC still got corners playing off. No run game stunts or blitz’s. Not attacking at all just sitting back and waiting for it to happen. This shit so disappointing smh,” Jackson posted to X.

Marquis Maze, who stood out at wide receiver for Alabama, shared he felt the same way.

“They told me that defense would work 3!!! I love my school but I’ve seen too many times our Db’s playing 40 yards off on 3rd & 6 to 10! Anyhow Roll Tide 4 Life,’ Maze posted in response to Jackson.

They were not the only two former Tide players upset with this.

“Tennessee consistently exploited our soft coverage with quick perimeter throws and way too many yards after the catch,” Christian Miller said on X.

Alabama football’s back is now against the wall with two losses.
