Alabama fans were initially disappointed upon seeing Notre Dame’s Tommy Rees emerge as the top candidate for the Crimson Tide’s offensive coordinator opening.
However, the 30-year-old may be what Nick Saban wants. Rees is young enough to adjust, change plays, and offset opposing defenses at the right time. He coordinated offenses and coached quarterbacks for six years (2017-22) with the Fighting Irish.

Rees, a former Notre Dame quarterback, put together sophisticated play designs. His creativity set the Irish up for marquee explosive plays, especially when the players executed them well. On a couple of plays, Notre Dame did not execute and an opportunity was lost. As we look at what Alabama’s offense could be under Rees, a few of his play designs are below.
When Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman talks about a lack of execution, this is what that looks like.
Beautiful motion-in, route-out concept crafted by Tommy Rees on 3rd & 2. Lorenzo Styles runs it well, but he drops the ball. Drew Pyne’s pass needs to be better too. pic.twitter.com/uu9WsWbI4A

Don’t overlook how big (and how beautifully designed and executed) this touchdown was to put Notre Dame up by 14 at halftime.
Marcus Freeman and Tommy Rees’ reactions say it all.
The Irish went 61 yards in six plays to score with :17 left in the half. ND needs more of that. pic.twitter.com/CcEIawiay1

The Crimson Tide reportedly offered him the job, but we will see if he takes it.
