Nick Saban in favor of playing all Power 5 games

Nick Saban walks the sidelines

Nick Saban admitted he was a fan of playing against all power five opponents during his SEC meetings press conference Tuesday.

There has been much debate about if the SEC should move to a nine-game conference schedule as of late with Texas and Oklahoma set to join the conference in the future. Saban gave his opinion on the future of SEC football scheduling by stating he feels the best thing is to get every power five program to play an all power five schedule.

“I still am always of the opinion that we should play all Division 1 games,” Saban said. “I’ve said this for years. So, whether there’s 60 teams in the power five conferences or 70 teams or however many there are, it’s better for fans, It’s better for strength of schedule that we all play all power five games. So, however we get to that, I think that’s the best thing.”

Saban went on to say he felt moving to a nine game schedule will put Alabama’s future games against out of conference power five opponents in jeopardy.

“I think one of the more difficult things with going to nine games is we’ve tried to schedule two out of conference power five games to try to improve our strength of schedule over the next, I don’t know, 7, 8, 9, 10 years,” said Saban. “If we go to nine games, we’ll have to unwind that.”
