For the Green Bay Packers having a balanced offense is key to having a successful season, but without your star rusher it’s hard for teams to be balanced.
The Packers will have to hope that their star back, former Crimson Tide star Eddie Lacy can fully heel from an ankle injury quickly. Lacy was injured in the Packers week two victory over the Seattle Seahawks.
Lacy will play tonight in the Packers third game against the Kanas City Chiefs.
Lacy and his health are of the upmost importance for the Packers Super Bowl hopes. Prior to drafting Lacy in the second round with the 61st overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft the Green Bay ranked 20th in rushing.
In his rookie year Lacy helped improve the Packers rushing attack and they finished the 2013 season ranked seventh in rushing, a vast improvement from the previous year. Lacy also finished the season as the 2013 Offensive Rookie of The Year.
Prior to drafting Lacy the Packers leading rusher was Alex Green who rushed for just 464 yards in all of 2012. The following season Lacy rushed for 1,178 yards and 11 touchdowns, an increase of 700 plus yards from the previous season.
The Packers rushing attack has not been this consistent since the days when Brett Favre and Ahman Green roamed the sidelines in Green Bay. If the Packers want to bring the another Lombardi trophy back to Wisconsin and fulfill the hopes of the Lambeau faithful, then Lacy will need to stay healthy and continue his dominance as one of the top running backs in the NFL.
