Texas made a statement in Tuscaloosa as it came into Bryant-Denny Stadium to secure a massive win over Alabama.
The Longhorns were led by quarterback Quinn Ewers who proved his importance offensively after being knocked out of last year’s contest. Ewers finished the game by completing 24-of-38 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns on the night. His leading receiver was Ja’Tavion Sanders who caught five passes for 114 yards.
On the flip side, the Crimson Tide offense was riddled with inconsistency all night through the air and on the ground. In his third career start, Jalen Milroe struggled through the air completing 14-of-27 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns.
But ball security was an issue for the redshirt sophomore as he threw two interceptions in Alabama territory which led to 10 Texas points.
Alabama’s retooled offensive line struggled throughout the night allowing five sacks and two penalties which erased touchdowns.
Defensively, Kevin Steele’s unit held tough for a large portion but was susceptible to big plays in the second half allowing a long touchdown from Adnoai Mitchell and Xavier Worthy.
The biggest winner from tonight is certainly Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian who will now be able to carry momentum from the win into the following weeks and as his squad joins the SEC in the near future.
Alabama will now turn its attention to South Florida next weekend.
