Alabama running back Jam Miller spoke with the media and provided his early impression of running back Dre Washington.
“We all love him you know. He’s big, he’s fast,” Miller said, “I’m not sure if you guys have seen him in person yet, but he’s short, stocky. I feel he going to do a great impact on this offense.”
Washington transferred to Alabama this offseason from Louisiana. The Texas native spent four seasons with the Ragin’ Cajuns. During that time, he had 229 carries for 1,343 yards and nine touchdowns.
Given his skillset and experience, Washington figures to be a candidate to receive meaningful touches during the 2025 season. As Miller alluded to, Washington’s body frame alone could increase his chances of seeing opportunities in short yardage situations.
Washington is listed at 5-foot-9 and 218 pounds. His measurables are eerily similar to former Alabama running back Josh Jacobs. Jacobs was listed at 5-foot-10 and 218 pounds in his final season at Alabama.
Washington will have to compete for playing time given Alabama’s depth at the running back position. It will be interesting to see and hear how things are going for Washington over the course of the spring and during A-Day in mid-April.
