As the No. 4 Crimson Tide cruised to a 20-9 victory over the LSU Tigers on Saturday night, Alabama fans in Bryant-Denny Stadium were making their voices heard, roaring throughout the night and creating a deadly environment for the Tigers.

There was one moment in particular, however, that stood out in the midst of it all. It came as quarterback Ty Simpson fumbled the ball in the fourth quarter with a 17-6 lead, giving LSU great field position to start its drive.

The Tigers moved the ball down the field fairly efficiently, working their way to the 7-yard line in a couple of minutes. As the fans provided threatening background noise, LSU was called for a false start, moving them further from the end zone.

Alabama’s defense held strong with the fans behind its back, ultimately forcing LSU to settle for a field goal. The false start penalty was the second of the drive and the fourth of the game for the Tigers.

After the Tigers struggled with false starts throughout the night, even starting the game with one, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer spoke after the game about the role that fans played in the Tide’s win.

“When the turnover happened tonight and they get put in that spot where it is a short field… then our crowd comes and helps us out, gets some false starts,” DeBoer said. “That’s huge. That was a problem for them the entire game. So, huge props to our fans for staying in there with us, the big moments, and helping us out there. Our guys feed off of that energy, and that puts an offense in a tough spot when they’re behind the sticks, especially in the red zone.”

The deafening and dangerous atmosphere that the fans have been able to create in Bryant-Denny for opposing teams this season has been a major factor in the Crimson Tide’s success at home, as the crowd creates a true home-field advantage.

DeBoer and the Tide will hope for another crazy environment and a major showing from the fans next week, as Alabama looks for a ninth-straight win, taking on the No. 12-ranked Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday.
